California Water Bond Postponement to 2014

The $11 billion dollar water bond will be shifted from the November ballot to 2014. Assemblyman Henry Perea’s bill AB 1422 won support for the postponement from the Assembly and Senate (69-6,34-2) this week. The delay indirectly supports Governor Jerry Brown’s income tax ballot measure, and was a more palatable maneuver for many legislators than a wholesale repeal of the bond measure altogether. Senator Lois Wolk was reported saying that the bond was ‘too big and ignores vital aspects of the water situation while providing many millions of dollars for pork barrel projects unconnected to water.’
